Makiguchi Park Opens in Taquaritinga, Brazil

Taquaritinga City in Saõ Paulo, Brazil, dedicated a park to educator and first Soka Gakkai President Tsunesaburo Makiguchi (1871-1944) in recognition of his lifetime achievements as educator, humanist and founder of Soka Gakkai, "an organization dedicated to the creation of human value." A resolution proposing the memorial park by former Assembly Member Antonio Carlos Dib Jorge was passed by the city council. At a ceremony on August 20, 2011, a plaque bearing Makiguchi's name was unveiled. Taquaritinga Mayor José Paulo Delgado Junior and Assembly Member Márcia Zucchi Libanore attended the ceremony and planted a commemorative tree, together with city officials and SGI-Brazil members.
